When you first see Austin you think well he isn't too bad looking and then you look at the hair and his movements and he is a big goodlooking geek. Does this remind you of a certain superhero?
You also notice right away that he and his father have a strained relationship to say the least. He and Hannah get along, but like most siblings have their tifts. More than likely its due to they're mother dying.
Austin tries from the very beginning to please his father. Do you think he tries to hard? Maybe he was a mamma's boy and Josiah was disappointed with that fact.
Its hard to say. But what is most intriging is that Austin wears his heart on his sleeve. You can see each and every emotion that he goes thru. You start to relate to him in some ways. Maybe more than others.
People take advantage of him and I think its because he is niave and emotional that he is an easy target. But your not sure if he is more taken advantage of in the Series or The Outlaw Years.
He truly wants to become a man. And is haunted by what his father wants, how he thinks he should be and what other people think. But then again, he really doesn't care what other people think only what those closest to him think.
As the show grows so does Austin, truly the only character that does. You find yourself rooting for him when he acts like the good man we know he is and then he falls backward and we all want to kick his backside.
The main reason I like Austin so much is that I can see the man he was, the man he is and the man he so despartley wants to be. He just isn't sure how to get there from here.
So close, every episode, he is almost there. Even when his sister Hannah dies in a tragic accident he gets help to get back on his feet. He doesn't fall off the wayside like his deranged brother in law. He bounces right back on the trail of becoming a man.
So if you haven't seen what I have seen, then maybe you should take another look. A deeper look. And you will understand Austin Peale
